The Morris is demanding intellectually as well as physically. A Man must be at the top of his game to participate. Those without the ability to know which "left" is meant when Number One says "Galley Left" are a liability to the team, and those who can't puzzle out the meaning of a simple mnemonic like "double, single, high" can be a danger to their fellow Men.
The Berkshire
Morris Men address this problem boldly. As far as we are aware Berks Morris are
the only team in the International Morris that require an entrance exam for membership
- to ensure that applicants are up to the rigorous mental standard required.Prospective
applicants are advised to study the sample test (from 1991) reproduced here. But
remember, as with all Berkshire Morris activities, creativity, originality and
enthusiasm are given as much weight (or more) as accuracy.
